Background

On June 27, 2008, residents of the “Wedge” Neighborhood submitted a written request for consideration of the neighborhood as a historic special review district overlay zone.  

The proposed area extends roughly from Division Avenue to the north, to Sixth Avenue at the southern boundary, and L Street at the eastern boundary.  The western-most point is the location where Division Avenue meets Sixth Avenue at Sprague.

Public Review Process

Overview

The Commission began its review of this proposal on September 10, 2008.  On September 24, 2008 the Commission voted to accept a review schedule for this district and to send out a notice letter to all property owners within the proposed study area. This letter was sent on September 30, 2008.

Review of the nomination has commenced according to the schedule below.  On May 13, 2009, the Commission voted to release the nomination with proposed boundaries for public comment and to schedule a public hearing for June 24, 2009.  Notice was sent out on May 27, 2009.

Following the Public Hearing by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Commission adopted findings and made a recommendation to the Planning Commission (see below). 

The Planning Commission has been reviewing this proposal since August 2009.  A public hearing will take place on March 17, 2010 (for additional information, click here).
