Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month


 

The goal of Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month, taking place each November, is to illustrate the collective talent in our city and get people involved in the arts. The month is not just for artists... it is an opportunity for all community members to be an active part of Tacoma’s cultural life. Tacoma is ripe with activity and offers a multitude of events. There really is something for everyone.

Please join the Tacoma Arts Commission in a community celebration of the arts as we kick off Art at Work Month and honor the 2011 AMOCAT Arts Award winners and funding recipients.

2011 AMOCAT Arts Awards
The AMOCAT Arts Awards recognize those in our community who provide distinctive contributions to the arts. The honorees work hard to support and build our community by innovating in artistic excellence. AMOCAT award recipients are nominated and selected by the Tacoma Arts Commission.

Anniversaries are a time for reflection and, as we approach the 10th year of Art at Work Month, we’ve been reflecting on all of the things we like about Tacoma. We invite you to join us.

Print your own You'll Like Tacoma sign using this PDF or make your own. Then take a photo of the sign in front of your favorite Tacoma site, space, or view and share your photo by uploading to www.flickr.com/groups/youllliketacomaarts/ or sending to tacomaculture@cityoftacoma.org. Share in the fun by enlisting the help of your friends.  

The fine print: The City reserves the right to use all submitted photographs for non-commercial education, public information, and other governmental purposes designed to promote Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month. By submitting your photograph for inclusion, you are taking full responsibility for and must have the legal rights to show all work that you submit. Images must be appropriate for family viewing under local community standards. Images must not be obscene, pornographic, defamatory, racist, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, Libelous, slanderous, defamatory. Images must not violate or infringe on the civil property rights, trademark rights, service marks, trade secrets, patent rights or rights of privacy or publicity or any other rights of any person. If the City deems any submission to be in violation of the above guidelines, the City may remove the image.

2009 & 2010 Art Slam

What is an Art Slam? In a fast-paced format, a selection of work by local visual and performing artists is projected on the big screen, set to a soundtrack of musical accompaniment. Live dance, music, and spoken word performances is interspersed between segments of the show. Artists of all mediums and genres show their work, ranging from the very accomplished to the up and coming.
