Beginning Metalsmithing

Learn the secrets of working with copper, brass and silver on a jewelry scale with instructor Amy Reeves. Via demonstration, hands-on practice and individual instruction students will learn how to shape, texture and join these metals. Techniques covered will include piercing, filing, stamping, hammering, riveting, soldering and a simple stone setting.

Securing and Protecting Rights in Your Works: Essential Law for Designers and Creators of Metal Art

While jewelry and other 3-dimensional designs may be eligible for copyright protection, the law poses unique challenges for designers working, marketing, and selling these items. Venkat Balasubramani, an intellectual property attorney with Washington Lawyers for the Arts, will present this interactive session designed to help you understand the laws governing the design, creation, ownership, marketing, and distribution of your work.
